What a sunny day it was! And the program was perfect for the warm "Finnish summer" day. In the morning we went hiking and than had a lovely picnic near Asheville. After that our team was just lying on the grass, taking a small nap and enjoying life... Greetings to Finland, I suppose you guys don't have that warm weather there!
Then it was again time to say goodbyes to our hosts that already felt really close. Black Mountain Rotary Club people picked us up and we headed towards new town. We enjoyed the lovely day on another picnic.
People have been asking for photos and we certainly try to put some online. Maybe this evening I have time to load a couple here... Let's see what happens!
Tänään taas muutettiin! Aamulla käytiin ashvillelaisten kanssa pienellä vaelluksella ja piknikillä, sitten oli aika hyvästellä. Ikävä tulee Billia ja Joycea, jotka jo alkoivat kutsua minua tyttärekseen. Kerrassaan ihania ihmisiä!
Niin on myös uusi perhe täällä Black Mountainissa ja heillä on suureksi ilokseni myös kissa, joka tosin ei suostu tulemaan lähellekään minua... Illalla käytiin porukalla päivän toisella piknikillä, sää oli tänään aivan loistava, yli 20 astetta ja aurinkoa, joten meidän kelpasikin ulkoilla! Millaiset kelit muuten Suomessa on?
En onnistunut näkemään karhuja Ashvillessa, mutta täällä on taas uusi mahdollisuus. Karhuäiti pentuineen käy usein iltaisin isäntäperheeni kuistin alla. Nyt pitää siis vahdata nenä kiinni ikkunassa koko ilta pihan tapahtumia.
Paljon on toivottu kuvia ja toki niitä laitetaan, kun vain olisi aikaa purkaa niitä kameroista. Ehkä tänä iltana olisi mahdollisuus... Katsotaan, mitä tänne ilmestyy!

The concert was excellent! After that we got the chance to meet the dancers and the conductor. It was really interesting to see and hear Michael playing bassoon in the concert, he is also staying here at Joyce's and Bill's place. Beautiful evening indeed!

This afternoon while Johanna was writing the blog, we others went shopping and it got kind of crazy. Ilmo was - again - our shopper number one, but we others did quite well too. For example I bought a dress, shoes and bag that I wore at the concert and also another bag plus some bracelets!
Ashville is a big town but we still are quite close to nature: yesterday I saw a fox and some turkeys but Niina did even better: she saw a black bear - luckily from a car!
Finland was on the frontpage of Wall Street Journal today. There was an article about rock'n roll artist Michael Monroe and also Alexander Stubb, minister of foreign trade was interviewed. I even learned something new about Finland: we have more metal bands per capita than any country with 53,5 per 100 000 people! Thank you Wall Street Journal!

Right now just taking some rest before the evening's symphony concert in Asheville. The program includes Mozart's Jupiter symphony and Stravinsky's the Soldier's Tale.
We visited today the Biltmore Estate - America's largest home in Asheville. Wow! French style castle with amazing facilities and a mixture of different details from Greek style ornaments to Italian and French paintings. Mr. Vanderbilt and his family were not minimalists! Walking in the garden of the castle made me feel like walking in Versailles.

Hi everyone!
The trip has been absolutely fantastic so far. We have seen so much in one week that I couldn't have imagined. People have been really friendly and they have taken such good care on us. Today I had my first visit to elementary school (Evergreen) in Ashville. It is nice to see that children are the same here and back home. My lovely pupils are having their new email-friends very soon as American 5th graders have already got Finish addresses. So e-mails might be already on the way... My visit to Mars Hill Collage Education department was very interesting and we agreed to try some co-operation next fall.Teacher students would like to observe Finish lessons by skype. So my colleagues in Urpola school-be prepared :)
